Walks October - December 2008 Sunday 5th October 2008 - Peaks Navigaton Weekend Grade: E2 (explained here) Info: This is now fully booked Start Point: Click here for start point map Leader: Steve & John Sunday 12th October 2008 - Claverdon - Austy Wood - Kington Grange - Claverdon Grade: M1 (explained here) Info: . This walk starts outside the fifteenth century church in the village of Claverden. A 8.5 mile circular walk across footpaths and farmland which takes in a pleasant stretch of Monarch's Way, through Austy Wood. It then takes in a stretch of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal before returning across farmland to Claverdon. Please park responsible near church - car share where possible to minimise number of cars Start Point: 10:30am The church in the village of Claverden Click here for start point map Leader: Paul Thornton Sunday 19th October 2008 - Bewdley to Highley with a head of steam Grade: M1 (explained here) Info: . This linear 9 mile walk follows the River Severn North from the town of Bewdley to Highley taking a detour into the Wrye forest. The return uses the Severn Valley Railway with its beautifully preserved stations and steam hauled trains (probably cost between £5 -£6) www.svr.co.uk The route uses a section of the Severn Way and also a part of the North Worcestershire Path. Start Point: 10:30am Parking in pay and display in Bewdley (south of town centre). Once over the bridge take a left, drive along the river to to reach the car park - if you start driving past the shops once over the bridge youv'e gone to far Click here for start point map Leader: Michael Potter Sunday 26th October 2008 - Middle Tysoe Note clocks change today Grade: E2 (explained here) Info: .7.5 miles of undulating walk along some sections of the Macmillan Way and passing through the villages of Shenington and Epwell. Sorry this weekend is full booked Start Point: Lake District Leader: Steve Bick Sunday 2nd November - Broadway to Snowhill (Local alternative to Lakes weekend) Grade: M2 (explained here) Info: .The walk leads us on a short steep climb out of Broadway village, then descends to the small villages of Buckford & Stanton before another climb back onto and over the Cotswold escarpment to Snowshill. The return leg takes us to Broadway Tower for great views out towards the west before dropping back down into Broadway village. Its about 10 miles with a possible pub stop just over half way. Start Point: PLEASE NOTE 10:15 start to help get around before it gets dark. There are 2 large car parks in Broadway. Please park (Pay & Display) in the one on Leamington Road access under an Arch of a residential building please see pointer on map. Public conveniences are available there Leader: Tania Young Sunday 9th November - Bears Lazy Day out - Chedworth Roman Villa and big lunch! Grade: E1 (explained here) Info: .A relaxing day out starting with a guided tour of Chedworth Roman Villa. Then a 3 ish mile walk to the Fossebridge Inn Hotel (please bring flipflops etc in backpack) for a proper lunch. http://www.fossebridgeinn.co.uk/ Followed by a 3ish mile walk back to the car park. The cost of the villa entrance and guided tour is going to be about £10 each depending on number who turnup. Most main courses are about £12-14. I will book lunch for 1:30ish Bring a torch if you want a pudding ! Start Point: You MUST pre-book by Monday 3rd November and be "in for a penny in for a pound" ie participate in both the tour and lunch ! This is because I will have to pre-pay for tour and deposit to the hotel. We will meet at 10:30 to sort out tickets for a tour that starts at 10:45 PROMPT. Leader: Andrew Kennard a.kennard@btinternet.com Sunday 16th November - Blockley to Broad Campden and Back...hopefully! Grade: E2 (explained here) Info: A circular walk from one delightful Cotswolds village to another. The route follows undulating hills with many great views from the vantage points along the way. We go from Blockley's village centre, out on the Diamond Way, follow bridleways and footpaths to the north and pick up the Monarch's Way to Broad Campden. We then skirt the edges of Northwick Park (possibly seeing deer) and back into Blockley for a beer! There is only a small section on the road. Start Point: The village centre in Blockley, where the village shop is, and public toilets (handy), near the church and bowling green. Grid ref: SP 164348.(map) Parking: for a village there is plenty or on road parking, some on the road leading to the village centre, or some futher out, but still only a minute or 2 walk. As ever, please car share as it is still only a village. Leader: Dave White Sunday 23rd November - Burton Dassett 'Village Hat-Trick' Grade: M1 (explained here) Info: .. From the open slopes of Burton Dassett, this 8.5 mile circular walk passes along a mixture of field paths, tracks and quiet lanes to take in the three beautiful limestone villages of Fenny Compton, Farnborough and Avon Dassett plus four medieval churches and stunning views of the Warwickshire countryside. Start Point:10:30am We'll start from the car park at Burton Dassett Hills Country park and encompasses a couple of bridle-paths en route as well which are likely to be muddy at this time of year! Map Leader: Suzie & Chris Sunday 30th November - Lighthorne - Compton Verney - Combrook Grade: M1 (explained here) Info: .A 9 mile circular walk starting in the village of Lighthorne. This peaceful and varied route passes through farmland meadows, bridleways, stunning woodland, and close to tranquil pools and lakes. It is very rural and there will be good views of Compton Verney at various points along the way. The walk also passes through the small village of Combrook, which has a beautiful medieval church. It may be muddy in places so please come prepared! Start Point:10:30am Meet outside "The Antelope" pub near the village green in Lighthorne (Old School Lane, CV35 0AU). Please park responsibly in the village. There are several side streets with ample parking close to the pub/village green. Map Leader: Sarah Richards Sunday 7th December - Saxon Mill, Leek Wootton & Leamington Canals Grade: E1 (explained here) Info: 8 mile walk along canal towpaths, through fields and bits of town. This walk is very local to Leamington, and will take us from the town centre up to the Saxon Mill, before heading out through the countryside near Leek Wootton, and then back along the Grand Union Canal to Leamington. Although the route is on the Bear group's doorstep, it might still be unfamiliar to many. Start Point: 10:30am The grassy park area at the junction of Kenilworth Road and Beauchamp Avenue (this is 2 minutes walk north of the top of the Parade, and there are plenty of parking spaces around). Map Leader: James D'Alessandro Sunday 14th December - Leamington-Hunningham-Offchurch Grade: M1(explained here) Info: A 10 mile fine but flat walk taking in the the Grand Union Canal, Hunningham and Offchurch with its interesting historical associations with King Offa of Mercia which Steve will tell the story off during the walk.
